Cranbrook, located in the southeast corner of British Columbia, is the regional centre of the Kootenays. Cranbrook faces the Purcell Mountains to the west and the Canadian Rockies to the north and east. With mild winters and more sunshine hours than any other BC city, Cranbrook has become a favoured spot to work, play, retire or raise a family.
The Canadian Rockies make Cranbrook and the East Kootenay a first class, four seasons resort destination. During the winter, Canada's finest ski resorts come alive at Kimberley, Banff, Panorama, Fernie and Lake Louise, only a short drive from Cranbrook. Cranbrook's beautiful natural setting, well developed tourist facilities and access to major tourist attractions including many golf courses and Fort Steele Heritage Town are the key ingredients for the local trade and convention industry.
Cranbrook serves a retail trading area population exceeding 55,000. As a result, the city has two major shopping centers, an active central business district, 25 hotels and motels, two campgrounds and more than 50 eating establishments. Moreover, Cranbrook boasts a well-rounded menu of community facilities including College of the Rockies, 14 public schools, East Kootenay Regional Hospital, senior citizens facilities, 20 parks, 3 golf courses, Cranbrook Rec Plex, with swimming pool and water slide, arenas, a curling rink, performing arts theatre, movie theatres, libraries, a daily and a weekly newspaper, 2 radio stations, local cable television, and the internationally renowned Canadian Museum of Rail Travel.
