FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

December 13th, 2018, Cranbrook, BC. The Cranbrook Chamber announced the 2018 Citizen of the Year recipient during their December “Spirit of Giving” luncheon. Chamber president Wes Rogers had the honour of naming not just one, but two people deserving of the title. Jim and Ann Wavrecan were jointly named the Citizens of the Year during the “Spirit of Giving” themed event held at the Heritage Inn. The sold-out crowd of over 160 local business members gave a well-deserved standing ovation.

“Congratulations to our 2018 Citizens of the Year Jim and Ann Wavrecan. It was a heartwarming experience to bring them the news of the nomination and experience their joy and humbled reaction. They are true examples of the unsung heroes that make up the fabric of our community.” Says Wes Rogers, Cranbrook Chamber President.

Ann has been a volunteer with the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop since 2005.  Jim was a member of City Council from 1989 to 2011 and chaired the Railroad Centennial Committee, the City Centennial Committee and was involved in the Cranbrook Celebration for Peace Society.  Ann and Jim have been chaperones with the Sweetheart Society for a number of years and are responsible for building, maintaining and travelling with the City float.

“Their willingness to take on projects in the spirit of making Cranbrook a better place to live is just one of the many reasons why they are deserving of this honour.” Adds Rogers.

The Citizen of the Year event will take place on the evening of Friday, January 25. For tickets contact the Chamber office at 250-426-5914 or email [email protected] or buy online at cranbrookchamber.com
